Sound familiar?

You may have been experiencing this for years.

Many adults with ADHD experience these kinds of difficulties for a long time. You might have found ways to cope, but everyday life can still feel much harder than it should.

An adult feeling overwhelmed at a desk

Does any of this feel familiar?

These are some common experiences people with ADHD tell us about.

You open 40 tabs and finish none of them.

Starting is easy. But finishing, prioritising and switching off can be surprisingly difficult.

1

You walk past the same letter for weeks.

You know it needs doing. You fully intend to do it. But somehow, it still doesn't happen.

You're brilliant in a crisis but overwhelmed by routine.

Urgency brings focus and energy. But day-to-day tasks, admin and deadlines can feel much harder.

A*

You were told you were bright but 'not applying yourself'.

For many adults, the signs were there long before anyone thought to look for ADHD.

When these patterns keep showing up, at work, at home or in relationships, it may be worth understanding what is driving them.

Understanding ADHD

What ADHD looks like

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, impulse control and activity levels. It impacts focus, emotions and day-to-day functioning.

Inattention

  • Easily distracted, even by small things
  • Starts tasks but struggles to finish
  • Loses things like keys or phones
  • Often forgetful and disorganised
  • Struggles to follow instructions or focus for long

Hyperactivity

  • Always moving, tapping or fidgeting
  • Feels restless or "on the go" constantly
  • Talks excessively or at inappropriate times
  • Finds it hard to relax or sit still

Impulsivity

  • Interrupts or blurts things out
  • Struggles to wait their turn
  • Makes quick decisions without thinking
  • Takes risks without realising the consequences
With the right support, people with ADHD can thrive

Often missed for years because it presented as anxiety, perfectionism or exhaustion rather than disruption.

Professionals

FAQs

The things everyone asks

Your assessment is carried out by a GMC-registered specialist doctor and follows NICE guidance, which is the standard the NHS expects. You receive a full diagnostic report and an outcome letter written for your GP. Every clinician's GMC registration number is stated on your report so your GP can verify it in seconds.
Same-day and next-day slots are usually available. Your signed report and treatment plan follow within 24 hours of the consultation.
You still receive a full report explaining what was assessed and what was found, along with recommendations and any onward referral that would help. A clear "no" is a useful answer, and a great many people find it is the first time anyone has properly looked.
Every assessment is conducted by a GMC-licensed ADHD specialist doctor, never delegated to non-medical staff as is often the case elsewhere. The doctor who assesses you writes your report and your treatment plan.
It can be. Consultation, questionnaires and report are all delivered remotely, wherever you are in the UK.
